Phaseo CLI can create a dedicated API key and configure Aider to use Phaseo for every new session.

Set up Aider

If ~/.aider.conf.yml does not exist, setup creates a Phaseo-managed file containing:
Aider requires the openai/ prefix to route a custom model through its OpenAI-compatible adapter. The model sent to Phaseo remains anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6.
The API key is stored in plaintext because .aider.conf.yml is one of Aider’s documented credential locations. Protect the file with your normal user-account permissions and never commit it.
If you already have an Aider configuration, the CLI stops without changing it. Merge the three values above into the configuration you want Aider to load. Aider checks the home directory, repository root, and current directory, with later files taking precedence.

Verify

Open a repository and start Aider:
Confirm the startup output names openai/anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.6, then ask it to reply with PHASEO_AIDER_OK. The request should also appear in Phaseo activity. An unknown-model warning does not prevent requests. Add Aider model metadata only if you need accurate token-limit or cost estimates.

Remove

Removal revokes the dedicated key and deletes ~/.aider.conf.yml only when the file still has the Phaseo CLI ownership marker. If you merged Phaseo into an existing file yourself, remove the three Phaseo values manually.

Troubleshooting

Aider uses another endpoint or model

Check for .aider.conf.yml in the repository root and current directory. Those files override the home configuration. Environment variables and command-line options can also override the saved values.

Authentication fails

Run phaseo integrations credential aider and compare the result with openai-api-key. Keep openai-api-base exactly https://api.phaseo.app/v1.

The model cannot be resolved

Keep the Aider-only openai/ prefix. For example, Phaseo model openai/gpt-5.6-terra becomes openai/openai/gpt-5.6-terra in Aider.
